Stand with Us—Feminist Urbanism Journalism Needs You

We were recently told our publication is “too niche.” They further explained this could fit as an occasional column in a non-feminist publication, despite the fact that we have more experience in journalism and quite a few more degrees, we can be part of HIS idea.

Stand with Us—Feminist Urbanism Journalism Needs You

When progress is under threat, our voices matter more than ever. The current White House administration is working to reverse decades of hard-won advancements in gender equity—and the consequences are far-reaching. Feminist urbanism journalism isn’t just about reporting the news; it’s about challenging systems of power in public spaces, workplaces, digital realms, and every corner where inequality persist.

Why your support matters

Federal and education job sectors, where many highly educated women—including Ivy League graduates—build careers, are being slashed. These cuts disproportionately impact women, especially those from marginalized and historically excluded communities.

When women in positions of relative privilege face setbacks, working-class women, women of color, and trans women bear the brunt. Inequity is a cascade: what begins as a “sniffle” for some becomes a crisis—or worse—for others.

Wall Street and corporate America remain steeped in sexism, pushing women into undervalued roles. Even with higher rates of education and public transit use (a lifeline for many), women still earn considerably less than men—a gap that widens for those without degrees or from historically excluded and marginalized groups.

We were recently told our publication is “too niche.” They further explained this could fit as an occasional column in a non-feminist publication, despite the fact that we have more experience in journalism and quite a few more degrees, we can be part of HIS idea.

Since when does advocating for OVER 50 percent of the population —the largest gendered demographic—count as niche? This dismissal reflects the very biases we fight: the assumption that women’s stories, labor, lives AND IDEAS are peripheral.

WE ARE THE ONLY FEMINIST URBANISM EDITORIAL MAGAZINE IN THE UNITED STATES, THE ONLY ONE.

The stakes are universal. The subjugation of women doesn’t just harm women—it undermines everyone who isn’t shielded by generational wealth or stock market dividends. Equity is not a zero-sum game— it’s the foundation of a just society.
