SEPTA Launches “Stroller Spot” Program on Six Bus Routes

According to MASS TRANSIT—Families riding SEPTA buses in Philadelphia may soon find it easier to travel with young children. In March, the transit agency is rolling out a new “Stroller Spot” initiative on 120 buses across six routes—23, 25, 32, 49, 58, and 84—aimed at creating more accessible space for strollers onboard.

Buses equipped with the new designated areas will be marked with decals near the boarding doors, and interior signage will indicate the stroller-friendly zones. The move comes in response to customer and operator feedback about the challenges of accommodating strollers on crowded buses.

“We know it can be difficult for customers with young children to find adequate space,” said Interim General Manager Scott A. Sauer. “This initiative was designed with input from both riders and operators to improve safety and accessibility.”

Strollers must be no larger than 26 inches wide and 36 inches long, and passengers may request ramp access as needed. SEPTA is urging riders to yield stroller spaces when in use and to follow bus operators’ guidance to ensure a safe ride for all. Priority seating for riders with mobility limitations will remain unchanged.

The transit agency plans to monitor the program’s rollout and gather further feedback as it expands.
